    Protean Electric

    stephen.lambert.jpg.png

Dr Stephen Lambert received his Doctorate from the University of Warwick by looking at the applicability of hybrid and electric drivetrains in motorsport. Following this he worked at Lotus Engineering, developing hybrid and electric demonstrator vehicles for a number of OEMs which led him to work in various roles around developing battery technology in areas such as Formula 1 and high-performance road cars. He was then responsible for developing McLaren Applied’s automotive electrification strategy, particularly around power electronics and safety critical controls. He is now Chief Technology Officer at Protean, responsible for the delivery of in-wheel-motors, the associated power electronics and safety critical controls.

    Stephen Offley

Transport Lead - Net Zero Team

    Wales & West Utilities

    stephen-offley.jpg

Steve has 44 years of experience in the road transport sector, managing utility, local authority and emergency service fleets. He has spent 6 of those years at Wales & West Utilities (WWU) as Transport Manager for the 1300-strong commercial vehicle fleet, which includes 59 HGVs, plus 300 company cars and 900 items of mobile plant.

Two years ago, Steve moved into the Wales & West Net Zero Team as Transport Lead and is overseeing the start of decarbonisation of the WWU fleet.

Twenty-six years ago, Steve was part of the team that first introduced LNG-fuelled refuse collection vehicles in the UK. That early operational experience with gaseous fuels underpins his interest in the role of hydrogen as a low-carbon alternative fuel, and its potential to help WWU and other operators with challenging vehicle duty cycles meet their net zero ambitions. His passion is to make things better for the organisation, the people that work in it, and the environment.

Steve holds a BEng in Automotive Manufacturing and an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology.

    Steve Catlin

    Managing Director

    Vauxhall

    steve-catlin-headshot.jpg

Steve Catlin took over the helm of Vauxhall in June 2025, returning to the brand having started his distinguished career at Vauxhall over two decades ago.

Steve has held leadership roles at Vauxhall, General Motors, SEAT, Audi, and most recently steering Volvo Car Financial Services UK as Managing Director.

The return to Vauxhall comes as the brand builds on a monumental year with milestones such as offering a fully electric version of every car and van in its line-up and becoming the first UK manufacturer to offer electric and petrol hybrid versions of the same car for an identical list price with the New Frontera.

Steve will be taking part in this year’s Cenex Expo to discuss Vauxhall’s work supporting the acceleration of accessible charging across the country. Vauxhall continues to develop its Electric Streets of Britain campaign, launched in 2023 to help drivers without driveways find practical charging solutions near them. Since launch, Vauxhall has continued to raise awareness around public issues relating to on-street charging infrastructure, and work with its campaign partners, including Connected Kerb, to help install chargers for those who need them most.

    Prof. Stuart Coles

    Associate Dean (Research)

    WMG, University of Warwick

    stuart-coles.png

Professor Stuart Coles is Associate Dean of Research at WMG, University of Warwick. His research focuses on data-driven approaches to industrial decarbonisation, using life cycle assessment (LCA), techno-economic analysis (TEA), and multi-criteria decision aiding (MCDA) to reduce the environmental impact of everyday products and processes.

He has led major projects in polymer recycling, supporting Mura Technology through Innovate UK’s Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging programme and a current Knowledge Transfer Partnership. His work spans chemical and mechanical recycling, including AI-enabled chemometric analysis of mixed plastic waste. As Principal Investigator on the £1.6M EPSRC “PLASTIC” project, he explores in-line rheometry to assess recycled polymer properties and the complementarity of recycling technologies. He is also the lead for methodology on the Life Cycle Assessment Regulatory Science and Innovation Network (LCA-RSIN).

Professor Coles has also contributed to Innovate UK-funded research on the life cycle assessment of lithium-ion batteries, helping to evaluate their environmental impacts and inform sustainable design and end-of-life strategies.

He advocates for the strategic use of plastics where essential, rather than elimination, and uses LCA to guide resilient, adaptive recycling systems. Beyond research, he is committed to developing future scholars. As Deputy Director of Research Degrees, he leads training in quantitative methods, ethics, communication, and academic writing. He champions interdisciplinary collaboration and effective research communication, especially among doctoral students.
